From Concept to Construction

What happens between the first drawing and the finished building—and why the process matters.

The first drawing

A concept is a promise about how a place will feel. It is usually one or two ideas, drawn simply enough that everyone on the project can hold them in mind.

The long middle

Between that drawing and the finished building sit thousands of decisions about structure, cost, sequence, and detail. Each one can either protect the idea or quietly trade it away.

Why the process matters

When design and construction are considered together, those decisions are made by people who understand both. That is how an idea survives the journey to site.
